What do you think of the guests on the results shows then ?? Cortez - was OK, but nothing outstanding, although I believe he was unwell at the time of recording the show Libera - were good, but why did I get the feeling that they were miming Jonathan Ansell - BRILLIANT !! A rousing rendition of 'Barcelona' and was that a worried or admiring look on RW's face at the end - he certainly got a brilliant reception from the audience after the song anyway Katherine Jenkins - was a bit flat for me and that vibratto ............. my, oh, my - certainly not my cup of tea I believe it's Josh Groban this week and I really like him too, but I shall be away 'down south' at a Proms concert starring Jonathan Ansell and Natasha Marsh and meeting up with some mates there. Must ask my mate to record it so we can watch it when we get back

I have to disagree, I hated Jonathan Ansell's performance of Barcelona. The best by far have been Blake and Libera.

^ I wasn't keen on Jonathan Ansell or Katherine Jenkins. Libera were good, as were Blake. Josh Groban should be interesting - he has a great voice! My wish list for future guests? Hayley Westenra, Connie Fisher and Lee Mead !

To be honest I thought Ansell was the least impressive of the guests so far merely coming over as rather smug and self centred. I would think that any look on Russell Watson's face was perhaps more along the lines of "Why is he not performing better?" I felt that all the other guests gave good performances without exception.

I got the impression that the guests all mimed.................I'm sure that Libera were.......
It might have been the sound on my telly but Ansell sounded incredibly nasal (but then so Russell Watson)

I'm afraid I don't think Jonathan Ansell can sound anything else other than.... the guy who sold his G4 mates down the river. !!! He had the face..... the others didn't.... when push came to shove.... he SHOVED. I'm not knocking him.... .... I'd have probably done the same.... and there is a tiny/small/limited market for HIS sound, with HIS looks. (See Michael Ball) Miss Jenkins I thought was magnificent, Aiofe on the "MARIA" show made an absolute Town Halls of the same song.... the difference in class was the proverbial street-mile ! Cortez was OK.... He's a star in his own right, and was perfectly adequate on the night. Libera were/are spectacularly entertaining.... I couldn't tell if they were miming, and didn't care even if they were. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Missed BLAKE ...whoever they are ... So all in all I've enjoyed the guests. I agree about Westenra .... let's have some of her... What about Andrea Ross.... "Moon River" ... She melts my Cold Heart If Russell Watson threatens to sing, then I'm out of here....

I agree Hayley Westenra would be a great choice of guest, she's fabulous Mikey there's a thread about Blake in the Easy Listening board, here's a link to it: BlakeThey are very very good they knock the spots off G4.

According to someone who was at the recordings the guests did 2 versions of the song live - probably for the sound and camera guys but it is quite possible that some clever *** took shots from both versions or cut it somewhat which might have taken away the immediacy? At the live shows obviously there is only one version! Personally I have been a bit disappointed by the guests - Blake are just 4 baritones singing mostly idividually, Cortes was not well, Libera were great, Jenkins was bit off vocally and was wearing a really unattractive dress but Ansell I thought did a stirling job but I have no idea how any of the songs were chosen as none of them seemed to really show off the guests voice to the best? If you want to hear Hayley Westenra live take a listen to the Don Black tribute on Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night tonight or on play again for the next week - Ansell and Westenra do a wonderful duet - it was recorded live at the London Palladium on Sunday

I thought Jonathan Ansell and Libera gave the two best performances by a mile on Last Choir Standing. Jonathans Barcelona was fabulous! I dont know what happened to Katherine Jenkins - her vibrato seemed to be a bit out of control. Blake were pleasant but didnt excite me. I liked Cortes performance - except for the fact that he didnt show much emotion. I've heard the duet that Jonathan Ansell and Hayley Westenra are singing tonight on the Don Black lyrics show (Radio 2 7.30pm) its wonderful. They sang Amigos Para Siempre - and the appreciation from the audience says it all really - fantastic performance. I agree with the poster about Andrea Ross. Lovely voice. She was a support artist for G4 on their last tour and I thought she sang beautifully. Is she still about - she seems to have disappeared off the scene? At the end of the day it's all personal preference isnt it as to whom we like as singers. Which is why there are so many artists out there - all appealing to different people. Live and let live and respect other peoples choices I say!

^ ^ I listened to the Don Black concert earlier and would have to disagree about Jonathan Ansell. His voice sounded affected* and it really didn't blend with Hayley Westenra's voice at all!
*Which it also did on Last Choir Standing

Oh well - he cant win them all! As I said in my previous post - it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day isnt it. Judging by the tremendous applause for Jonathan (and Hayley) at both Last Choir Standing and Don Black - there were very very many people who did love the performances..........each to their own. Edit: There's no need to quote the post immediately before your own
