Chocolate makes the world a better place

« on: August 30, 2008, 06:32:26 AM »

Tonight is the first time the judges don't have a say in the decision, it will be decided on the public vote alone. One choir will be eliminated at the end of the first show and the remaining two choirs will then battle it out in the results show to determine the overall winner. Apparently tonight's guest star is......

Russell Watson!

The main show is at 6:00pm on BBC1 with the results show at 8:50pm.

I think all three judges should sing together. I hope the result of the first vote is a Revelation.

If they live up to what should be their name of Revolting they will be first out, but with the public vote last week being such a farce you can't be sure of anything now.

Two outstanding Welsh performances and one boring East London one. Definitely the correct two through to the final.

I'm glad the weakest of the three choirs was voted out in the first show but singing Rule the World may have made the voting very close.

The passion fruitcake must have been told to choose a few different words to use when gushing praise this evening. She got through the whole show with no passions and only one passionate.

It's a pity though that the BBC scheduled 70 minutes for the first show and only allowed each choir to sing twice - and one of the two were repeat performances from previous weeks. There was much too much padding - even X Factor cuts down on the VTs when acts sing for the second or third time. The BBC bludgeoned us with three minute VTs before each performance. And in an X Factor final each act would sing three times and they would still have time for the ads.

Of the new songs only Only Men Aloud! chose wisely with their hip-hop version of the Welsh rugby anthem. The creativity of the performance is enough for them to win later this evening. Ysgol Glanaethwy and Revelation sang two bog-standard pop songs and disappointed.

The judges then imposed their choice of songs performed before and hobbled Only Men Aloud! with the weakest of the three by getting them to do the one where they danced around with walking sticks.

The last choir standing could yet be determined by the choice of song in the second show. Let's hope Ysgol Glanaethwy gives Only Men Aloud! a run for their money.

I don't think she'll get a job on Radio 3 or Classic FM unless she has a scriptwriter. Or a role in series two.

Thank you Flowers

Personally I'll be quite happy if I never come across Sharon D again. It would be nice if next year they replace her with someone a bit more like Suzy Digby and less like a pantomine dame. And while they're having a reshuffle they could get rid of Nick Knowles too, he's just not right for it

The BBC will require some diversity points in the on-screen "talent". David Grant is the obvious replacement.

I thought taht Only Men Aloud!'s final song before the votes were counted was probably the performance of the series.  Clap Clap

Here's my take on it:

The Final

...and just to blow my own trumpet

I believe it starts mid-July, but there's plenty of news and videos up on the website already Clap

Last Choir Standing

Of the ones I have seen so far I think my favourites are the choir called Only Men Aloud singing 'Drunken Sailor'

Congratulations Minnie on picking the winner from a sea shanty!

YG had to choose some good songs for the final to beat Only Men Aloud - and they didn't. Their best song this evening was the Simon Cowell theme and they had sung that before.

Only Men Aloud have a great sound and the musical director knows how to make it sound even better. His Welsh hip-hop version of the welsh rugby anthem was classic.

Sharon was back with the passion in the second show and got two more in before the series finished!

I'm gutted Ysgol Glanaethwy didn't win. For me they were more entertaining. I did quite like OMA but even though I'm welsh, I'm not a real fan of male voice choirs!

i think ysgol glanaethwy should have won out of the top three.  their performance of O Fortuna was amazing!  IMO that alone should of won it for them.

I was a Ysol fan and thought their Fortuna was world-class.  Not amused!

The OMA gimmicky tune with the cane's won it for them, entertaining and well sung, and overall, their 3 songs were all round better than Ysol's 3 songs.

Revelation were a fair distance away in 3rd.

Overall, a pretty good show,  I've enjoyed every week, thought the singing was great, the sob stories kept to a minimum, and the judges were firm but fair.  I'm NO fan of Nigel/Russel Watson, but he annoyed me less than I thought, and much less than Nick the Host
Suzy Digby floated my boat...  ... professionally wise, with her words of wisdow, I thought she was excellent , and although I liked Sharon's enthusiasm, her blatancy for Revelation grated on me at times  Couldn't wait to see them knocked out in the end.

Myleene really really WAS....  Klass      Great to see a new face doing so well, maintaining the catchphrases, encouraging all acts with NO biasness, and effortlessy outKLASSing her numpty clumsy awkward looking assistant.

I'll look forward to this show again next year !!!
