I liked Miriam from series one. She could seduce with a single glance, she said "ultimately" in every episode and was never at a loss for words even she she didn't know what she was talking about.

I like Kate from this series too. She can also seduce with a single glance, she says "ultimately" in every episode and is never at a loss for words even when she doesn't know what she's talking about which is quite often.

But which one is better? Miriam or Kate? There's only one way to find out.

Right?

Yes there is only one way to find out indeed.... You mean who would be better in the sack, right?

One of Miriam's greatest strengths was the way she encouraged her team-mates.

Perhaps she's more like Phil than Kate?

Chalk and cheese mate. Miriam had - and has - class, style and intelligence as well as a seductive gorgeousness for which to die.

Not seen that from Kate. A looker for sure, but stumbles badly when trying to flannel. Miriam never did. When she flanneled - as they all do - it was with aplomb and without a falter.

Glances are spontaneous, Miriam's were and that's why we blokes felt it in the you-knows. But with Kate every move seems pre-planned and scheduled, hence zero reading on the ol' seduce-ometer.

The acid test would be if the nation were to bellow in protest should Kate be fired, as happened when Miriam was stitched up like a kipper by SAS.  AMSTRAD wobbles - shares dipped.  Questions in the House - very nearly.  N'n'M look to the skies and suck hard on their respective lemons.  SAS downcast and as near as damn it admits to a mistake.

Can't ever see that happening for Kate, or indeed this: Miriam's walking through town and strangers are crying out 'You wuz robbed gal!', or a group of men sitting outside a pub rising, as one, in silent tribute with glasses held aloft in salute as she passes by.

Kate would be over in a flash signing tee-shirt autographs. Miriam, bless 'er, didn't even notice.  Chalk and cheese mate, chalk and cheese.

^ OK I 'fess up. That is one mud-wrestle I would pay to see. Heck, I've pay even more to take part!

Bit hard though to expect a new mum to be fully fighting fit. We'll put her in training over the Spring and go for a bout in say June, July.  Harry Hill meets Henley? Could have legs.

It's a pity Harry Hill finishes his series before the half-way stage. His observations would be a lot more incisive now. The Kate victory dance would have featured several times by now.

Now I believe Kate is the outstanding candidate of this series. And probably the best candidate of all the series so far. We need to see her managing a production line type task but I suspect she would be brilliant at that as well.

I always think its a shame that HH finishes during the Apprentice. I am sure his ratings would be a lot higher with the weekly Apprentice commentaries which he provides

Week ten will separate the two. Week ten in series one and this year is the TV shopping channel task where Miriam was fired in 2005. Let's see how Kate does next week. Will she make the semi-finals?

Miriam was fired unjustly, though. It's the only case I can think of where Sir Alan recognised his mistake and apologised for it. So if Kate doesn't get fired, it doesn't mean she's better.

He did state that Miriam's "fatal flaw" was not asking for only Tim or Paul to speak to her live in her earpiece, rather than both. Which, as a PM, is true.

Having said that, she presented excellently and Paul was really on the sidelines in this task and and perhaps should have been fired. But SAS liked him a bit more at the time...

I remember that Miriam was congratulated for being the only Series 1 candidate never to swear in any episode.

I don't remember Kate swearing much, if ever. Can anyone else remember her doing so?

I never thought Miriam was good enough really. Sweet for sure. Good as a manager of kindergarten. But not for sir Alan. And not the best of the best. I don't understand the fanclub for her really.

And I see no connection with Kate whatsoever, Kate was very good but i always missed the human 'sparkle' - it was as if there was emptiness somewhere. I never warmed up for here, it was freezing at this side of the telly.

Ah i think of one connection. They both look like animals. One like a Camel and the other like a Giraffe.

While I still agree that Miriam shouldn't have been fired after the shopping channel task, I didn't have that much sympathy with her. Two episodes earlier after the farmer's market task when both Paul and her were in the boardroom, she actually lied and tried to pin her own overspending on ingredients/meat on Paul. Ben and her tried to pick on Paul in the boardroom, despite the fact that he easily been the best member of their team on the task, contributing the most to sales and doing the best job of negotiating for ingredients, but thankfully he wasn't having any of it. I do think that Paul should probably have been fired after that shopping channel task, but maybe it was justice that he got his revenge over Miriam and she was fired instead. On James's podcast I heard Paul saying that the boardroom scene for that task was very long and took place over 2 days. Paul vs Miriam in a long boardroom battle was a huge mismatch.
Overspending did seem to be Miriam's weakness, and she was guilty of that for Tim's team in the final as well.

Saying that though Sugar actually made it clear that had he not fired Miriam, Tim actually would have gone and not Paul, because he was unimpressed with Tim's poor defence of himself in the boardroom. This wasn't shown on the final edit I don't think, but Tim said that he thought that Paul was a stronger candidate than Miriam.

I rank Kate as the top performer in any of the Apprentice series. The only thing that baffled her throughout was the name of food items served at business receptions. Even if she had attended several of them she may not have learned their names as the plates there are not labelled.

Her unflappable nature is admirable in a business leader. Her judgement throughout the series was superb. In the final she intervened to ensure the TV video was not boring at just the right time. No one else spotted that. And everyone else gave her full support - something which must be very difficult to get in an environment like The Apprentice.

SAS has usually hired the weaker of the candidates in the final - but then he has to choose someone suitable for the limited options he has to offer.

I never saw Series 1 so for Me Kate is the best... if that was a pic of Miriam on Page 1, I doubt she'd seduce me with a glance - Kate could though

All in all I would say that Kate was a slightly better candidate than Miriam. Miriam was hugely impressive and was a major contributor in all the tasks that she won, plus she shone in the shopping channel task as well. The two tasks where she didn't impress me were the toy design task when she was incredibly indecisive, and acted as a yes woman towards Lindsay (thankfully she spoke up in the boardroom though), and the farmers' market task where she seemingly spent money without a care in the world. Kate was more consistent I would say, having fewer low-points/troughs than Miriam and just as many peaks. I would say that Kate was a slightly better project manager. She impressed me immensely both times that she did it. If Debra and Ben were full of compliments towards her on both occasions, then she must have been good. It must be said that though Miriam was also an excellent PM, and kept her boys firmly under control during the advertising/'Jukebox is back' task in Series 1.
I think I've said this before, but I do think that overall this series had the best female candidates over the 5 years (I would say that Series 4 had the worst).
Having re-watched Series 1 on youtube recently, my opinion of Miriam did decrease quite a bit because of her poor conduct in the boardroom after the farmers' market task, which I mentioned in my previous post on this thread. I had forgotten about that until then.
