First semi-final - Tuesday 12th May

The first semi-final is tomorrow, Tuesday 12th May, BBC3 8pm - 10pm.

Eighteen countries will compete in the first semi-final and ten of those eighteen will go through to Saturday's final. The UK has the chance to vote on Tuesday, but not on Thursday for the second semi-final.

The first of two eliminators - there's another on Thursday, when hot favourites Norway appear, while our own Jade has a bye to the final on Saturday. Look out for Sweden (techno opera), Bosnia-Herzegovina (scarily militaristic rock ballad), Belgium (Elvis impersonator), Finland (shameless 90s-throwback Europop) and rank outsiders Czech Republic, who present a Romany rap delivered by a man inexplicably wearing a superhero costume. But I'm voting for the poodle rock of Macedonia, with their silky hair and kick-ass guitar solo.

 Iceland was darn good ... hope they get through

Iceland and Malta are my favourites, I was getting really worried about Iceland, it was such a relief when she got through Wasn't that Russian bloke with the bad Jonathan Ross wig annoying

Well having watched last nights first Semi where 10 go through to the final I'd say the UK's lousy effort will finish no higher than 8th and a lot of the favourites are in Thursdays show so I think it'll be more like 20th.

I thought that Iceland was the outstanding entry last night. I also liked Malta and Finland grew on me. I am really pleased that the Czech one didn't get through and as for Belarus - what was the person wrapped up in a sheet doing?
