I really enjoy this programme and find it fascinating how the girls develop throughout the series with regard to attitude, appearance and self worth; I fancy there have been some amazing successes. Although I appreciate there is probably an element of "staging" re the behaviours as the girls first enter the Hall, it is evident that as soon as they find themselves dressed in their "uniforms", things seem to become somewhat calmer with the girls seemingly becoming better able to take self control of themselves and to learn.

What has surprised me, therefore, is that there isn't a greater focus on the hairstyle makeovers that seemed to feature quite strongly in the first series but seem to have become far less prominant with each following series. Surely, if by taking away the "normal" clothes and replacing them with something far more modest and ladylike leads to an immediate improvement, then taking away the "normal" hairstyle and replacing it with something shorter that's also far more modest and ladylike would catapult the girls even further away from the appearance/lifestyle they themselves are trying to escape from and would, therefore, be massively beneficial to all.

I have a funny feeling that although the prominance of the hairstyle makeovers appears to have deminished ever further with each series, with regard to this series, there may be no makeovers at all. Personally, I feel this would be a shame as I feel it would reduce the girls chances of being able to really embrace the opportunity they are being given, on the basis that as it is, they get kicked out, get changed into their old clothes, hair and makeup and leave as the person they arrived. Perhaps, if they were faced with leaving with their old clothes and makeup, but a far more modest shorter haircut, they may no longer feel quite so comfortable and "cocky" reverting to their old selves and may think twice before giving up and throwing in the towel.

I appreciate that my thoughts here maybe pretty unique, but would be interested to hear the thoughts of others...............

Do you think there will be makeovers?
Do you think there should be makeovers and why?
What kind of makeover do you think each girl should receive?

Sorry for the length of my post and for my clumsy words. I'm new to this forum and have never posted before, so this is a first attempt. Thanks for reading

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum

It's an interesting post - I do find it strange that they seem to be allowed to continue to wear their full (tacky) make-up even when in their uniforms - I'd have to watch it back again but did not most of the girls have their hair tied back/up when in uniform?

But in answer to your question, yes, I do think there should be makeovers - not just to show girls like Sarah how to apply make-up but to tone down and remove most of the make-up from the rest of them

Hi Mark

Great first post, no clumsy wording there!

I can see your point and i do think that there should be makeovers for the ladettes to help them turn into proper ladies but to be honest, if i went on the show and was the 1st one kicked out, i wouldnt be happy about having all my hair chopped off!

I agree about the make-up and i think they should be shown how to apply it appropriately - either by toning it down or learning to put some on in the first place - because that is something that can be wiped off if they have been removed from the house in the first few weeks.

I think the idea of a drastic make-over (hair) would be best left until maybe the final 3 because then it will be the girls who are really serious about transforming themselves rather than being forced into the house by someone else and not being fully committed to the programme.

Hello Mark you're not a hairdresser by any chance? I think you do make a good point but even so I think it might be a bit drastic to make them chop all their hair off. Long hair can be very versatile so rather than cutting it off I think it would be better to show them different looks they can achieve by pinning their hair up in different ways, that way they would have the best of both worlds.

I agree with what everyone has said about make-up lessons and I think it would also be a good idea to do clothes makeovers too. Maybe they could bring in one of those colour experts to advise on which colours will suit each girl best. They could be taught about what clothes are appropriate and inappropriate for all sorts of different occasions, and also be taught basic running repairs like sewing up a hem or sewing on a button, how to iron, and generally how to look after clothes (and shoes).
